3 Modifications for Private Homes Approved; 1 Rejected
By Fred Friedman
-The owners of a single-family home at 1925 E. 5th St., between avenues R and S, sought and got approval to modify their backyard and construct a 20-foot enclosed greenhouse. Work is currently being done at the site.
-The owners of a house at 2153 Ocean Parkway, between avenues V and U, applied for and received permission to extend the side and rear yard. They also received permission to add a second story to the house and increase the height of the building.
-The owners of 2623 E. 11th St., between William Court and Avenue Z, sought and got permission to add a second floor to the building and to provide a front yard. They want to move the building back a few feet to accommodate a yard. Their next-door neighbors approved the expansion and the board concurred with the approval.
-The only application rejected was a plan for modification at 148 Oxford St., in Manhattan Beach. The owners wanted to remove the existing roof by lowering its size and enlarging the floor area in the house. The board objected to the modification, claiming the house structure is out of harmony with other homes on the block.
The board also questioned Eric Palatnick, the lawyer representing the owners, as to whether or not the house was an existing structure or a brand new building. The board deemed it a brand new building and the permit was denied.
